I’m Kind of a Big Deal

Look, I know it’s only Facebook – but still. This is fucking awesome. I am a fan of Eric Roberts on Facebook, and I frequent his page quiet often. I was all pumped for “The Expendables”. My main draws to the film were Stallone, Rourke and Dolph Lundgren, but once I read that Roberts was playing the villain of Monroe I was jacked! I’ve always been very fond of Eric Roberts. He’s excellent in Bob Fosse’s “Star 80” (and I can’t even believe that performance didn’t garnish Roberts a Best Actor nomination), and his guest spot on the first season of HBO’s “Oz” was just as fantastic. His Academy Award nominated performance in “Runaway Train” is spectacular and I even remember watching an episode of “CSI Miami” because Roberts had a guest appearance. How cool was it that Roberts’ played the new mob kingpin Sal Maroni in “The Dark Knight”? I’ve always felt that Roberts is one of the best, and one of the most underrated character actors in film and TV. I remember being in High School and my Mom telling me to rent “The Pope of Greenwich Village”. That was the first time I discovered Mickey Rourke AND Eric Roberts. I did see “The Expendables” last night, and I’m working on a review. One thing I can promise you is this: I have a lot to say about Eric Roberts.

Author: Frank Mengarelli

Everybody relax, Frank's here. After going to film school at Columbia College Chicago, Frank decided to underachieve with his vast knowledge of film into a career in civil service. Frank had a brief stint as a film blogger, and then he met the heterosexual love of his life, Nick Clement. The two instantly bonded over their love from everything to Terence Malick to THE EXPENDABLES films. Some of Frank's favorite filmmakers are Terence Malick, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Sylvester Stallone, Oliver Stone and Spike Lee. Some of his favorite films are THE TREE OF LIFE, STAR WARS (all of them), BAD LIEUTENANT, THE THING and ALL THAT JAZZ. Frank spends his free time with his dog Roger, collecting any Star Wars collectible he can find and trying to finish his pretentious, first person narrative novel(la), LARGE MEN IN SMALL CARS..

  1. I’m hoping Maroni comes back for the third Batman as well. I don’t want to say he stole the show when he was onscreen, but the charisma was there. Maroni for Batman 3 campaign is officially started.
