Seven Movie Questions

Thanks to my friend Dan at Dan the Man’s Movie Reviews and the ever so cute Kevin Blumeyer over at The Pork Chop Express. So let me divulge some more movie facts about myself.

1. What was your first movie-going experience?

Tim Burton’s “Batman”. Thank you Mommy.

2. How many DVDs do you own?

501. Seriously. Actually, I think a little more than that.

3. What is your guilty pleasure movie?

“The American President”. My heart wants to give it a 10, but my brain gives it a 9.

4. You’ve compiled a list of your top 100 movies. Which films didn’t make the cut?

“Gladiator”, “Crash”, “The Hurt Locker” and “The Departed”.

5. Which movie(s) do you compulsively watch over and over again?

“All That Jazz”, “Cliffhanger”, “Empire Strikes Back” and “The Dark Knight”.

6. Classics you’re ashamed to admit you haven’t seen.

“The Apartment”, “The Sound of Music”, and “The Seventh Seal”.

7. What movie posters are hanging in your room?

Currently there aren’t any movie posters in my room. They are in my family room: Kubrick’s “Lolita”, “Goldfinger”, “Reservoir Dogs” (a Michael Madsen one), “Kill Bill” and “Blue Velvet”. In my room I have three stills, one of William Peterson from “Manhunter”, DeNiro and Liotta from “Goodfellas” and Roy Schieder from “All That Jazz”. A bulk art that’s in my room are framed albums (mainly Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, Robert Palmer) and custom made character stills: Colin Firth from “A Single Man”, Christoph Waltz from “Inglorious Basterds” Bob Hoskins and Michael Caine from “Mona Lisa”. Then a hot black and white of Paul Newman.

So if I need to tag some people how about Aiden at Cut the Crap and Castor.

Author: Frank Mengarelli

Everybody relax, Frank's here. After going to film school at Columbia College Chicago, Frank decided to underachieve with his vast knowledge of film into a career in civil service. Frank had a brief stint as a film blogger, and then he met the heterosexual love of his life, Nick Clement. The two instantly bonded over their love from everything to Terence Malick to THE EXPENDABLES films. Some of Frank's favorite filmmakers are Terence Malick, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Sylvester Stallone, Oliver Stone and Spike Lee. Some of his favorite films are THE TREE OF LIFE, STAR WARS (all of them), BAD LIEUTENANT, THE THING and ALL THAT JAZZ. Frank spends his free time with his dog Roger, collecting any Star Wars collectible he can find and trying to finish his pretentious, first person narrative novel(la), LARGE MEN IN SMALL CARS..

  1. I haven’t seen “The Apartment” or “The Seventh Seal,” either, and I just saw “The Sound of Music” for the first time last Christmas. But sometimes I don’t think it’s a bad thing to wait so long to see a classic. I don’t think I could have appreciated the genius of, say, “2001: A Space Odyssey” when I was 16.

What’s with “The Dark Knight”? That seems to be a common thread in the “Movies I Watch Compulsively” blanket. I know because I do it too — I must have seen that movie 30 times since I bought it! 🙂
